Death Threat

The world is a lovely place.
Two weeks ago we received a letter from our downstairs neighbour complaining of too much noise coming from chairs scraping on the floors and threatning us with legal action if we didn't make our floorboards soundproof. Since this was the first we'd heard of the problem we went to talk to the neighbour's daughter (who's in a lot and whom we'd talked to before). She said her father was upset at the restaurant, which is doing nothing to help cancel a noise they make and keeps her father awake, and so that he had gotten worked up rather quickly on our noises. We figured out that our chairs did make noise so we bought little pads to put under their feet.
Friday night we came home late after having dinner with friends and decided to put out the laundry to dry since the load was done. We walked back and forth in socks and slippers for about 5, maybe 10 minutes to do so and heard our neighbour pounding on our floor/his ceiling really violently. It really made me mad because we'd been making an effort to make less noise and pounding on the ceiling really isn't the nicest way of communicating with your neighbours... So I pounded back twice and went downstairs and knocked on the door to see what his problem was and tell him he was over the line reacting like that when all we were doing was walking in our appartment. As soon as he opened the door, he started yelling, spittling in my face so bad I had to put my hand up in defense as he kept advancing on me. Me and his daughter tried to calm him down for him not to wake up the neighbours but he went on, even louder, after violently pushing his daughter back. He then told me he's call the police and alert the neighbours. To which I answered he had nothing on us as we'd been doing nothing illegal and had been really quiet. He then got even more annoyed and threatened to take a match and some kerosene and blow us up. So I asked if he was threatning us and he answered that yes indeed he was, and repeated his threat twice, adding that we didn't know who he was and what he could do. He was becoming more and more angered and violently excited so David came between us but then he grabbed him by his upper arms. David still has marks there. The neighbour's daughter urged us to go back to our appartment so we did, but he followed us up. He stayed behind our door, pounding and yelling for a while and then went back to his place.
So we went to the police the following day and filed a complaint. We'll see what comes out of this but it has made us feel uneasy in our own appartment, of course. If we have any more problems we're considering moving out; which would suck because we really like our place!
Let's just hope we never hear from him again.
